Annual Report

Pasadena Convention Center

As I reviewed FY13, I was struck by the accomplishments of the Pasadena Center Operating Company (PCOC). The proof is in the numbers—our recent economic impact report pointed to the $475 million impact tourism has on Pasadena, contributing $10.4 million in state and local tax revenues and
supporting 2,383 jobs.

The Pasadena Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) continued to successfully market Pasadena as a meeting, convention and tourism destination. The CVB met 89% of its room night goal, booking 32,900 room nights and generating nearly $27 million for the city and local businesses. The PCOC takes great pride and responsibility in serving our visitors and
providing meaningful and positive guest experiences. This year, we retained 86% of annual business and scored an impressive 3.68 out of 4.00 on our customer service survey.

The Pasadena Convention Center continued to attract larger, more lucrative conventions. This past year PCOC reached 102% of its rental revenue goals amounting to over $2 million. The Civic Auditorium stood out with a season that featured the 2012 Alma Awards, UNCF Evening of the Stars, and the 17th Season of the Distinguished Speaker Series with Caroline
Kennedy, Robert Gates, and Michael Phelps.

We are pleased to share that the Pasadena Ice Skating Center achieved its revenue expectations and has grown substantially in popularity adding over 10,000 participants in the past year. The PCOC also welcomed a Starbucks onto the Convention Center complex in order to provide more beverage options. The PCOC is positioning itself for the future—we initiated a strategic work plan and engaged our employees in developing the company’s norms and standards. I would like to thank everyone for their valuable insights which will ensure the success of the PCOC for years to come.

I am most proud of our success in attracting business and building our local and national reputation as a premier West Coast destination for meetings and leisure. Great credit goes to the PCOC team, led by CEO Michael Ross. I would also like to express my appreciation for the time, talents and commitment given by all of my fellow board members and our partners at the
City of Pasadena. With your support, I know the organization will continue to thrive in 2014 and beyond.
