ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY CONSTRUCTIONEach year, 136 million tons of building-related construction and demolition debris is generated. Creating building materials often destroys natural habitats, depletes natural resources and pollutes the air and water. - 95 percent of the construction waste from the Pasadena Convention Center expansion project was segregated and recycled, including metal and steel. The concrete rubble was ground up and used as backfill instead of having dirt imported to the site.
- 44 percent of the building materials were locally manufactured. Not only did this support the local economy during tough economic times, but it also reduced the environmental impact associated with transporting the materials to the construction site.
